Available since 29 April 2013, the new app "Bayern in historischen Karten" (Bavaria in historical maps) by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek offers a special type of digital experience: Make a fascinating journey through time by browsing Bavaria's historical maps on your tablet or smart phone.
The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek holds one of Europe's most important map collections. With its latest app "Bayern in historischen Karten" it now presents the great historical cartographic works of the Free State in the form of a location-based service for mobile use.
257 map sheets from the 16th to the 19th century were digitised and geo-referenced in their entirety for the app. As a result, it is now possible to go on a fascinating discovery trip of Bavaria's cities, locations and art monuments. The unique and rare historical maps of Bavaria - from Apian's geographic tablets "Landtafeln" (1568) to the topographic atlas of the Kingdom of Bavaria ("Topographischer Atlas vom Königreiche Baiern"; 1812-1867) can be viewed in every detail and discovered interactively.
